Colloquially and affectionately referred to as “fashion’s biggest night out,” the Met Gala 2019 is a pinnacle of iconic style. A fundraising benefit for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the event welcomes celebrity stars, young creatives, and industry paragons alike.

This year’s theme, based on Susan Sontag‘s 1964 essay, “Camp: Notes On Fashion“, is all about “the love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration.” So naturally, we’re expecting attendees to go completely over the top with their red carpet looks. After all, if Cardi B and Rihanna can take even a Catholic-themed dress code and make it fashion, we can’t imagine what they’ll do with a theme literally dedicated to outrageousness.
With Lady Gaga’s four looks leading the way, here’s how this year’s guest list is bringing camp to life at tonight’s Met Gala red carpet.

Among the first to arrive, co-host and queen of camp Lady Gaga really, really made an entrance. Not only did she show up in a next-level hot pink parachute coat, of which was custom made for her by designer, Brandon Maxwell, she casually stripped down — on the pink carpet — into the ultimate LBD.

Are you even real, Serena Williams? The record-breaking tennis wonder and Met Gala co-host really can do it all — and even better, she does it in Versace. And sneakers.

We’ll always love this. J. Lo channeled Whitney Houston in The Bodyguard with this diamond-encrusted headpiece and matching fringe body-con gown. It’s safe to say that we all want to be A.Rod right now.

Sure, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry are the unofficial queens of modern camp, but now that we’ve seen this lavender Versace number on Kylie Jenner, we’re thinking that they’ve got some serious, fluffy competition.

And the winner for most camp couple goes to… Bughead. Lili, who played it safe at last year’s Met Gala, went full Let Them Eat Cake in this aquamarine short set, while her Riverdale –and-real-life beau Cole goofs it up, as he does, in a Ferragamo suit inspired by an archival shoe circa 1938.
